DesignHammer Sponsors Community Awards

DesignHammer Media Group, LLC is very proud to be a Gold Level Sponsor of the 2003 Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Community Service Awards. The ceremony was held the evening of Thursday, September 25, 2003, at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education.

This year awards included Jim Gibson Volunteer of the Year Award, Town & Gown Award, Community Enhancement Award, Citizen of the Year Award, as well as three Family Friendly Employer of the Years.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary membership organization, presently serving more than 900 businesses and community organizations in the greater Chapel Hill and Carrboro communities. DesignHammer designed, developed, and maintains the Chamber web site.

DesignHammer Named One of Top Developers in Triangle (Again)

DesignHammer Media Group, LLC was featured in the Triangle Business Journal 2003 list of top twenty-five Internet Marketing and Design Firms, as published in the June 27th issue. This was DesignHammer’s second consecutive appearance on the list, this year appearing at number 17.

Founded in 2001, DesignHammer appearance is noteworthy in that it was the youngest firm to make the list this year. “We are very proud to have been included again with so many well-established companies,” said David Minton, DesignHammer’s Managing Partner.

Companies were ranked by Triangle employees dedicated to Internet marketing and design. Each week, The Business Journal publishes a Special Report focusing on a particular industry or region.

The Business Journal claims a weekly readership of more than 40,000, including top management and decision makers. The offices of The Business Journal are in Raleigh, NC.

State Educators Register Online with the Help of DesignHammer

DesignHammer Media Group, LLC today deployed an online registration system and resource guide for the annual North Carolina Career-Technical Education Summer Conference, on behalf of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

The new system will allow CTE consultants at NCDPI to process and manage registration more efficiently than with paper-based registration systems used for past conferences. Between two and three thousand teachers are expected to attend the 2003 statewide conference, July 21–25 at the Sheraton Greensboro Hotel at Four Seasons, Greensboro.

Career-Technical Education is one of the eleven Curriculum Areas in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. In North Carolina, CTE is organized in grades 6–12 in the public school system. The program begins with exploratory courses and leads to specialized classroom instruction in grades 11 and 12.

In 2000-2001, nearly 700,000 students in grades 6-12 were enrolled in CTE courses. These courses were taught by over 5,300 teachers and with the assistance of over 530 support personnel in special populations and career development. Sixty-six percent of all students enrolled in grades 9-12 took at least one CTE course.

DesignHammer Gets the Job Done for Frank Horton Associates

DesignHammer Media Group, LLC has completed the web site redesign for Frank Horton Associates, LLC (FHA), an independent provider of workplace consulting and counseling services.

Challenged with creating an effective web presence on a limited budget, DesignHammer leveraged FHA’s existing print collateral, to fashion a unified look for all of the firm’s marketing material. The redesigned site offers extensive new content, including resources for both employers and employees, newsletters, timely topics, and helpful links.

Established as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) in 1990, FHA has been a leader in the provision of EAP services in North Carolina. As a private and independent firm, FHA focuses solely on providing EAP and workplace consulting services. FHA is a private and independent firm with offices in Raleigh, Greensboro and Sanford, North Carolina.

Biotech Startup Selects DesignHammer

Advanced Animal Diagnostics (AAD), an innovative biotechnology research and development company has selected DesignHammer Media Group, LLC to redesign, maintain and host their company web site.

AAD plans to bring high-quality 21st century point-of-care diagnostic tests to the underserved valuable farm animal industry, including dairy cows, cattle, horses, swine, sheep, and goats. To this end, AAD has developed the means to quickly determine, on-site, the exposure to infectious agents by examining the animal’s own immune response to the exposure. AAD’s technological breakthrough, the Universal Diagnostic Platform™ (UDP™) is a simple, yet powerful tool capable of performing cellular analysis, hematology and immunochemistry.

DesignHammer was selected for the AAD project based upon a track record of developing successful web sites for high tech organizations, including award-winning projects for RTI International.

A new AAD web site is expected to be deployed by the Fall of 2003. DesignHammer currently hosts and maintains the current AAD web site, developed internally.

AAD is a privately funded company located in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.

Yonnetti Brings Home the Gold for DesignHammer

At the Carolina Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication 2003 Annual Awards Banquet, Frank Yonnetti, DesignHammer Media Group, LLC Partner/Graphic Designer, along with RTI International was presented two awards for the 2002 redesign of the RTI International External Web Site in the Online Communication Competition. The development team was awarded both the Distinguished Online Communication Award and the Online Communication Best of Show Award.

Of the Distinguished Online Communication Award winning entry, the judges wrote “clearly superior work that applies the principles of technical communication in an outstanding way, particularly in the way it anticipates and fulfils the needs of its audience.”

The Carolina Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication Annual Awards Banquet drew many members to the Prestonwood Country Club, Cary on March 11, and showcased the vitality and skill of local technical writers, editors, and graphic designers.

“This is absolutely great to be included in such a wonderful event along with RTI. The success of this site design was greatly accomplished with the help of Stuart Somer (Web Designer/Developer, RTI International). Without his feedback, and great compliments, I don’t think it would have been as successful on so many levels,” said Yonnetti.

RTI International was awarded a total of 8 awards during the ceremony. RTI International is an independent organization dedicated to conducting innovative, multidisciplinary research that improves the human condition. With a worldwide staff of more than 2,000 people, RTI is active in health and medicine, environmental protection, technology commercialization, education, and decision support systems. Universities in North Carolina founded RTI in 1958 as the first scientific organization in and centerpiece of the Research Triangle Park. RTI International is a tradename of Research Triangle Institute.

The Society for Technical Communication is an individual membership organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. It is the largest organization of its type in the world, with over 25,000 members. The Carolinas Chapter in central North Carolina accounts for approximately 500 STC members. Workplace Consultants Employ DesignHammer

Frank Horton Associates, LLC (FHA), an independent provider of workplace consulting and counseling services has selected DesignHammer Media Group, LLC to redesign, maintain and host their company web site.

Established as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) in 1990, FHA has been a leader in the provision of EAP services in North Carolina. As a private and independent firm, FHA focuses solely on providing EAP and workplace consulting services.

FHA also provides a full complement of organizational services include Organizational Training, Organizational Development, and Work/Life Services, as well as management consultation on issues of performance management, productivity, behavioral risk management, and a variety of other workplace issues.DesignHammer was selected for the FHA project based upon a track record of developing and maintaining successful web sites for local businesses. The new FHA web site is expected to be deployed during April of 2003.

Film Festival Receives Star Treatment

DesignHammer Media Group, LLC today unveiled the web site for the Fifth Annual North Carolina Jewish Film Festival. The NCJFF will be held at the Carolina Theatre in Durham on February 22–24.

“Once again, DesignHammer has delivered an excellent product. The NCJFF web site is as functional as it is attractive.” said Sydney Miller, a member of the Steering Committee of the 2002 NCJFF.

As last year, the site includes a schedule, film descriptions, ticket information, as well as an animated splash screen (produced in Flash) and an automated system to allow volunteers to register for opportunities to help the Film Festival (as well as a means for the Carolina Theatre staff to manage the system).

According to Jim Carl, Director of Programming for The Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc., “As Director of Programming, I receive many comments from filmmakers and distributors regarding the marketing for their respective films. Without doubt, the website created by DesignHammer for The Carolina Theatre’s 2003 North Carolina Jewish Film Festival received the most positive feedback from respected professionals in the entertainment business than any other film festival website in this organization’s history.”

In addition to developing the web site for the 2003 NCJFF, DesignHammer has agreed to develop a site for the 2004 NCJFF.
