North Carolina History Project
Evolving Online Encyclopedia of North Carolina

client: John Locke Foundation
relationship: 2002 – Present

The North Carolina History Project (NCHP) is an evolving online encyclopedia of North Carolina. It features historical commentaries, lesson plans for teachers and a database of community events.

In March 2006 DesignHammer developed a sophisticated content management system to permit easy coordination between NCHP website contributors. The clean, easily readable design, built-in search capabilities and category grouping help users quickly find information, but also promote casual browsing and exploration.

Features include:

  • Custom-built Content Management System
  • Category groupings provide easy access to related topics
  • Teaser photo gallery on homepage links directly to entries
  • Elegant design that compliments the subject matter without interfering with usability
  • Web standards compliant, fully functional on all modern browsers and accessible to screen readers, PDAs, etc.

In the development process, the DesignHammer team was quick in answering my questions and helping troubleshoot any problems that occurred.
